Overview

This course provides participants with essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to workplace injuries and medical emergencies. Participants will learn how to assess emergency situations, provide first aid treatment for common injuries and illnesses, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) to stabilize victims until professional medical help arrives.

Module 1 – Introduction to First Aid / CPR / AED

Definition and purpose of first aid, CPR, and AED in emergency situations.
Importance of early response in reducing the severity of injury and increasing survival chances.
Basic principles of emergency care until professional medical help arrives.
Legal and safety considerations when assisting a casualty.

Module 2 – Scene Assessment and Emergency Response

Checking the area for danger before approaching the casualty.
Assessing responsiveness, breathing, and visible signs of injury or illness.
Calling for help and contacting emergency medical services promptly.
Prioritizing actions based on the casualty’s condition and the level of risk.

Module 3 – Basic First Aid for Common Emergencies

Combining compressions with rescue breaths where applicable.
Continuing CPR until medical assistance arrives or the casualty recovers.

Module 5 – Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Purpose of the AED in sudden cardiac arrest situations.
Basic steps for using an AED safely and correctly.
Following AED voice prompts and maintaining scene safety during use.
Coordinating AED use with CPR during an emergency response.

Module 6 – Roles and Responsibilities in Emergency Care

Responsibilities of the first aider during an emergency situation.
Importance of clear communication and teamwork during response.
Need for monitoring the casualty and handing over accurate information to medical personnel.
Promoting confidence and readiness to respond to emergencies in the workplace or community.
